Children's Concerns
The Kidea 2019 research, prepared by KidZania, delved deeply into children's concerns about the world within the framework of the following topics:
Major global issues
Issues perceived as closest to their own environment
The roles of adults in global issues from children's perspective
The impact of these issues on their lives and their impressions of adults' actions to provide solutions
This study was conducted using qualitative and quantitative research methods in 10 KidZania cities operating in 6 different countries: India (Bombay and Delhi), Indonesia (Jakarta), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Mexico (2 in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey), Turkey (Istanbul) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). Gender and age distributions (7-9 and 10-12) in the groups were kept consistent across all cities.
The study identified three main themes that were most frequently repeated among children in different KidZania Cities participating in the research worldwide:
Theme 1: Violence and Safety – kidnapping, bullying, domestic violence, war
Theme 2: Environment – environmental problems, environmental pollution, (endangered – vulnerable) animals
Theme 3: Welfare – disease, poverty, famine, parental death
The report includes children's impressions on these themes, as well as interesting findings on the attitudes and behaviors of Generation Z children and their opinions on actions to solve or completely eliminate these issues.
As a child, which of these 3 themes are you most concerned about?
It was found that attitudes differed by gender:
girls were more concerned about Welfare, while boys were more concerned about Violence &
Safety & Security.
